Platt Memorial Library is on the GROW
Our new addition was completed January, 2012.
Have a look at some of the process photos below!
Our groundbreaking ceremony occurred on September 28th, 2011 at 8:30 am. Rene Saenger, who won the opportunity as a door prize several years ago, dug the ceremonial first-shovel of dirt. She was assisted by Ms. Logan’s first grade class from Shoreham Elementary School.
Naylor and Breen got to work quickly after the groundbreaking ceremony. Here, the foundation work is in progress, October 2011.
The next two pictures were taken in early November–you can see the porch and insulating wrap on the new entrance. The gentleman in red is standing just about where Rene Saenger is digging in the first picture.
The front view: in progress. Notice also the beautiful, new stamped concrete walkway.
Naylor and Breen cut through between the two buildings in the last week of December, 2011. As they continued to work throughout January, they put up this plastic wall to protect the existing library from the dust and dirt of construction.
In the top left corner of this next picture you can also see the cut out for the new heating system–it’s a lot toastier than our old, inefficient radiators!
The completed new entrance, recently after completion in January, 2012.
The new addition houses the adult fiction collection, amongst other items. We are very grateful to the employees of New England Woodcraft for donating this beautiful shelving to line the walls in the new room.
Another view of our beautiful library–looking from School St. across the town green.
Librarian Abby Adams welcomes Shoreham residents to the new library during our Grand Opening Celebration, April 14th, 2012.
This project could not have been possible without the tireless efforts of many, many people around town and in the surrounding community.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your efforts in making the dream of a new addition a reality and your continued support of the Platt Memorial Library
