New Construction

Platt Memorial Library is on the GROW

It has been a long time coming (10 years of researching, planning, and fundraising) but we are finally building our new library addition.

Construction is complete! Look how far we’ve come….

Groundbreaking ceremony with dignitaries and guests

Groundbreaking Ceremony on September 28th, 2011

Our groundbreaking ceremony occurred on September 28th at 8:30 am. Rene Saenger, who won the opportunity as a door prize several years ago, dug the ceremonial first-shovel of dirt. She was assisted by Ms. Logan’s first grade class from Shoreham Elementary School.

The next two pictures were taken in early November–you can see the porch and insulating wrap on the new entrance. The gentleman in red is standing just about where Rene Saenger is digging in the first picture.

The front view: in progress. Notice also the beautiful, new stamped concrete walkway.

Naylor and Breen cut through between the two buildings in the last week of December. As they continued to work throughout January, they put up this plastic wall to protect the existing library from the dust and dirt of construction. In the top left corner of this next picture you can also see the cut out for the new heating system–it’s a lot toastier than our old, inefficient radiators!

This project could not have been possible without the tireless efforts of many, many people around town and in the surrounding community. It would be difficult to name everyone that has been a part of this process in one webpage, but as we reach our grand opening date, we will be doing just that.

In the meantime: thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your continued support of the Platt Memorial Library
