New Programs: Fall 2011!

This year we are offering programs for all ages at the Platt Memorial Library: from infants to adults, there is something for you!

Lap-Sit Storytime: For infants and toddlers ages 0-3 and their caregivers

Stories for our youngest library lovers! Held once a month, lap-sit storytime is an opportunity to share stories, fingerplays, nursery rhymes, and songs. Fun for babies and informational for adults; everyone will get a nursery rhyme booklet to take home. Please check the calendar for exact dates for these interactive storytimes.

Preschool Storytimes: For preschoolers ages 3-5 and their caregivers

Come and share stories, rhymes, fingerplays, songs, a new game, or a craft! These themed storytimes last about a half an hour long and are fun for everyone. These programs are a great introduction to the library and help with print awareness, early literacy, and kindergarten readiness. Please check the calendar for exact dates for these fun-filled storytimes.

    Elementary-aged Programs

This year we’re offering a variety of programs for elementary school kids, grades K through 6. Every month we’ll have either a storytime or a special program or both. All programs will include a snack, books to share, and a game or craft. These programs also offer a special opportunity for kids to enjoy the library and books with their friends. A parent does not need to stay with them if they can listen and follow instructions. Please check the calendar for all of the great programs we’re offering this fall.

Extended Day Storytimes: grades 3-6 in the Extended Day program at Shoreham Elementary School

Students visit two Wednesdays a month: there will be time to check out books and once a month we’ll share stories or titles. Please check the calendar for exact dates.

    Tween Programs

We’re also offering some special programming this year for kids aged 10-13, who may feel a little old for elementary school storytimes. Please check the calendar: these programs are labeled “Ages 10 and up”

    Teen Advisory Board: ages 12-18

The TAB is back! This board will give young people the opportunity to make their mark on the library. We’ll meet once a month to talk about new books, suggest titles, and plan volunteer opportunities for the TAB. Do you need community service hours for school? This is a way to get them! If you are interested in the TAB or have any questions, please email Abby.

Craft a Story: An Adult Crafting Group Featuring our Audiobook Collection

Do you knit, crochet, embroider, tat, or do other portable hand or fiber crafts? Bring your portable craft with you to the library on selected Wednesday evenings in January and February. We’ll listen to selections from our audiobook collection while we stitch the night away. Craft a Story Nights on Wednesdays: Jan. 11th, Jan. 25th, Feb. 1st, and Feb. 15th 6:30 pm.

    All-Ages Family Program

Join us for an evening storytime and pajama party on December 22nd from 7-8pm. This storytime for the whole family will feature a bedtime snack and tales everyone can enjoy. All-ages are welcome, though the content might be a little old for infants or toddlers. Please check the calendar–this event will require families to pre-register at the beginning of December.
