Summer is a busy time at the Platt– Summer Reading is our celebration of reading and the library. We have activities and several reading programs for all ages. Each of our activities is in either the Maker, Tinker, or Thinker categories. See if you can collect all the special badges by attending one of each.

In addition to our activity calendar (events listed below), we run a reading incentive program for kids. It’s easy to participate: read books, report back to the library about your reading every week, and be rewarded for your accomplishments. Each week a child reads, they’ll get a sticker, temporary tattoo, and a bookmark as well as their choice of a charm for their charm bracelet, keychain, or zipper pull.

If a child collects 6 charms, they can show them to the librarian in August to claim a secret project prize.

Please register your child at the library. Come by to pick up your reading log, available on June 21st. Children ages 3-5 record the number of books they read; kids ages 6 and up (and rising Kindergarteners) record the 20-minute blocks they read. Every child who reads at least 5 books or 100 minutes will be entered into our GRAND PRIZE RAFFLE DRAWING at the end of the summer. When children read 10 books or 200 minutes, they can pick out a new book from our give-away collection. 20 books or 600 minutes means they get a cool poster. Each time they read 5 books or 100 more minutes they will get another raffle ticket.

Our adult reading incentive program does not require registration. It runs June 26 – August 5. We are encouraging adults to check out all the great things we offer by providing prizes for your book or movie reviews. Stop by the library to pick up a review slip today; turn it in for a chance for a prize.
